NCSD approves repairs to water storage tank, posted on the Santa Maria Times
A 1-million-gallon standpipe tank that stores water for Nipomo Community Services District customers will soon be taken out of service for modifications and rehabilitation work. But district officials said the public should see no change in their water service, and NCSD will work with Cal Fire to assure adequate water supplies in the event of a major fire. “The district has another 3 million gallons in storage at the top of East Tefft (Street) that will provide adequate system pressure while the standpipe tank is off line,” said NCSD General Manager Michael LeBrun. Building on a 38-year history of manufacturing external tanks for NASA’s Space Shuttle program, Lockheed Martin announced it is producing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) storage tanks. In a release, Lockheed Martin said it is under contract to produce cryogenic LNG storage tanks for Wartsila, a Finnish power solution provider and Harvey Gulf International Marine, a marine transportation company. As the prospect of a drought for 2014 looks more likely, work is continuing on the three-million gallon water storage tank and booster pump station at Douglass Park. It turns out the water tank is also an integral cog in Woodland’s Surface Water Project. Crews recently poured the 15,000-square-foot concrete foundation, or about 400 yards of material, at the southwest corner of the park, located at West El Dorado Avenue and County Road 98.
