ATI buys alloy component manufacturer by Rey Mashayekhi, posted on AMM.com

Allegheny Technologies Inc. has acquired alloy component manufacturer Dynamic Flowform Corp. for an undisclosed sum, the specialty steel producer said Feb. 10. Billerica, Mass.-based Dynamic Flowform produces “thin-walled components in net or near-net shapes across multiple alloy systems, including nickel-based alloys and superalloys, titanium and titanium alloys, zirconium alloys, and specialty and stainless alloys,” ATI said in a statement. [Read More…]  

The Home Depot Opens Locust Grove, Georgia, Fulfillment Center, posted on Area Development

The Home Depot, the world’s largest home improvement retailer, opened its new direct fulfillment center in Locust Grove, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. The company said it “is the first of three new DFCs the company will open across the U.S. over the next two years, adding more than three million square feet and approximately 1,000 jobs to its supply chain. A study of laptops by the Öko Institute showed that 56% of the total greenhouse gas emissions of a laptop are produced in the production phase. On that list was this one: “Conflict between China and various Asian countries over territorial disputes in the Pacific ocean will expand, perhaps to the point of brinkmanship, and force Western companies and countries to rethink current dependence on China sourcing and hopes for revenue growth there.” Well, just a few days later, the Financial Times reports that “The Obama administration has significantly sharpened its rhetoric about China’s territorial claims in the South China Sea over the last week amid growing pressure from allies in the region for Washington to take a firmer line.” [Read More…]
