Shale gas innovation competition deadline Feb. 1 by Paul J. Gough, posted on the Pittsburgh Business Times

The deadline for the Shale Gas Innovation Competition is Feb. 1, with prizes totalling $100,000 going to the four winners of this year’s contest. The annual contest is open to small businesses, entrepreneurs and researchers from either Pennsylvania or West Virginia interested in making innovations in the shale gas industry. Goodrich Provides Tuscaloosa Shale Operational Update, posted on 4-traders

Goodrich Petroleum Corporation announced that its Huff 18-7H-1 (97% WI) well in Amite County, Mississippi was successfully fracture stimulated with 17 stages and had commenced flowback at expected fluid rates when the well became plugged up with frac-related debris at a frac plug approximately 500 feet into the lateral, which will need to be cleaned out prior to resuming flowback. Therefore, completion results are expected to be released after the first of the year as soon as flowback has resumed and peak rate achieved.  [Read More…]  

Drilling in Barnett Shale slows to lowest level in nearly a decade, posted on Bloomberg Businessweek

It has been a quiet year in the Barnett Shale. Despite a rise in natural gas prices during 2013, the number of rigs running in the big North Texas gas field hit its lowest level in roughly a decade, according to RigData. And with permits to drill new wells falling to the lowest since 2000, the lull seems likely to continue in 2014. “I think it will mirror this year, maybe even be a little lower,” said Gene Powell, publisher of Powell Shale Digest, an online newsletter that follows shale formations around the country. [Read More…]
