The Fraser Institute will release a new study Tuesday, December 10, spotlighting federal and provincial spending on Aboriginal people. The study, Ever-Higher: Government spending on Canada’s Aboriginals since 1947, looks at Aboriginal-related spending in three federal departments and among the provinces over 65 years, and notes that governments currently spend more on Canada’s aboriginal people than ever before, despite activist claims of a dearth in spending. The head of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission Aboriginal Canadians and Manitoba Justice, Murray Sinclair, recently mentioned in a statement that the commission shared the struggles faced by Nelson Mandela in his fight for racial equality. The commission headed by Mr. Sinclair is compiling a national record of the Indian residential school era.
