Judges were unaware that they were about to receive quite the literal slam at Shell’s recent “Science Slam,” an event in Berlin, Germany on December 11 for young scientists to showcase their projects and research. German activist Jean Peters and a partner hijacked the event, demonstrating an oil spill by spewing water dyed with food coloring out of a machine that read “Slam Shell” in golden-yellow and red text — coating the activists, judges and audience members in a brown-colored liquid. Activists barred from leaving Russia despite UN tribunal ruling , posted on the UN Regional Information Centre

On November 22, the UN maritime tribunal ruled that the Greenpeace ship and its crew, facing trial for a protest against Arctic oil drilling, must be allowed to leave Russia, but Moscow declined to take part in the case lodged by the Netherlands and has suggested it would defy the ruling. Russian investigators have now barred the Greenpeace activists from leaving the country despite an international court ruling, the organisation has said. Russia’s Federal Investigative Committee rejected a request to seek exit visas for the 26 foreign environmental activists from 17 countries who were among the 30 arrested after an attempt to scale Russia’s first offshore oil platform in the Arctic in protest.[Read More…]

Some young environmental activists, pretending to be scientists, on Wednesday pulled off a creative and subversive prank on Anglo-Dutch oil giant, Shell, in Berlin to demand cleaner business practices in Nigeria and elsewhere. The group, Peng! Collective, pretended to be scientists who had created a machine to reduce carbon dioxide only to turn around to expose Shell for the “evil” spills they cause in Nigeria. Royal Dutch Shell Plc (LON:RDSA) needs to provide more details to US regulators about possible plans to drill in the Chukchi Sea next year, Alaska Public Radio Network (APRN) has reported. Shell’s share price closed less than one percent lower in London yesterday. BG Group (LON:BG) yesterday announced that it had appointed a new senior independent director as well as two other non-executive directors to its board, including a former Australian resources and energy minister.
