Who organizes this conference?
The 14th Annual Alberta Power Symposium is organized by the Canadian Institute (CI), a C5 Group company. The Canadian Institute brings together senior decision-makers, industry professionals and experts for conferences focused on the regulatory, policy, business and operational challenges affecting organizations across Canada.
What is the conference about?
The Alberta Power Symposium brings together power sector leaders, policymakers, Indigenous partners, utilities, developers and innovators to examine the policies, technologies and market developments shaping Alberta’s electricity and energy future. The 2026 program addresses Alberta’s Restructured Energy Market (REM), AI data centres and rising power demand, grid reliability and affordability, transmission and interties, Indigenous-led energy development, renewables, carbon markets and grid-enhancing technologies.

The conference also examines the interaction between federal energy policy and Alberta’s evolving electricity market, including the National Strategy for an Electrified Canadian Economy, while providing practical perspectives on investment, infrastructure development and energy innovation.
Where and when will the conference take place?
The 14th Annual Alberta Power Symposium will take place October 29–30, 2026, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Calgary North, 2120 16th Avenue NE, Calgary, Alberta.

Optional pre-conference programming takes place on October 28, 2026, including the Negotiating Equity-Driven Energy Deals with Indigenous Partners workshop from 9:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. and a site tour of Capital Power’s Strathmore Solar Farm from 2:00–4:30 p.m.
Who should attend?
The Alberta Power Symposium is designed for senior decision-makers, policy leaders, innovators and industry stakeholders across Canada’s electricity and energy sectors. Key audiences include professionals from utilities and power producers, government and regulatory bodies, renewable energy developers and independent power producers (IPPs), technology and innovation companies, and industry associations.

The program is particularly relevant to professionals responsible for grid reliability, transmission planning, market development, government and regulatory affairs, project development, sustainability, investment, electrification, clean technology and the energy transition.
Which industries are represented?
The symposium represents organizations across electricity generation and utilities, transmission, renewable and alternative energy, oil and gas and midstream energy, financial services, clean technology, carbon management, energy efficiency, government, public policy and Indigenous economic development. Faculty organizations also represent academia, law, industry associations, technology and energy-sector investment attraction.

This cross-sector participation supports discussion of how electricity policy and infrastructure decisions affect producers, utilities, consumers, investors, technology providers and communities throughout Alberta.
What topics are typically covered?
The 2026 Alberta Power Symposium examines Alberta’s Restructured Energy Market (REM), federal energy and investment policy, AI data centres and electricity demand, affordability and reliability, Indigenous ownership and participation, renewables, transmission and interties, demand-side management, energy storage, carbon markets and grid innovation.

Additional discussions explore behind-the-meter generation, propane for edge data centres, nuclear power, distributed energy resources (DERs), Grid-Enhancing Technologies (GETs), smart grids, carbon removal, sustainable finance and the infrastructure required to accommodate electrification, artificial intelligence and industrial growth.
What will attendees learn?
Attendees will gain practical insights into how Alberta can respond to growing electricity demand while maintaining affordability, reliability, competitiveness and infrastructure resilience. Sessions examine the impacts of market reform, strategies for managing load and capacity, opportunities to expand transmission and interties, and the roles of renewable generation, energy storage, nuclear power and other energy technologies in Alberta’s evolving electricity mix.

The program also explores how AI data centres are reshaping electricity demand, how Indigenous communities are moving toward ownership and equity participation in major energy projects, and how carbon market uncertainty affects clean energy investment. Attendees will hear practical approaches to deploying demand-side management, DERs, smart-grid solutions and Grid-Enhancing Technologies to increase the capacity and resilience of Alberta’s electricity system.
