Canada is considered one of the leading nations regarding Indigenous participation in renewable energy projects. Proponents seeking to gain a competitive advantage are forming Indigenous equity partnerships as Manitoba and other provinces are requiring majority ownership by an Indigenous nation as part of their procurement processes. However, creating an equity partnership that consists of majority Indigenous ownership (greater than 51%) can be challenging without an existing Indigenous engagement strategy.
