Airports are not only important for global passenger and cargo travel, but also have become hubs of economic development and employment zones, increasingly important for global trade and regional economic prosperity. However, hurdles including clogged roads around the airport and poor transit access impact the ability for airports to develop into successful mega hubs. Funding for ground transport and airport-rail linkages is critical for this expanded role. This session will discuss the changing dynamics and emerging role of airports as international transport and public transit hubs and what will be required from governments to address traffic woes, and other hurdles to achieving mega hub status.
