SHAWNABRUCE is the Public Affairs Manager for DowChemical Canada where she is responsible for four manufacturing sites andperforms the role of senior public affairs advisor for Dow Canada’s corporatehead office. She is a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces having served morethan two decades as an Army Public Affairs Officer before pursuing graduatestudies in Disaster and Emergency Management from Royal Roads University.Qualified in the Incident Command System, Shawna is extremely passionate aboutcrisis communications and personal risk/public safety communications. As achampion of Responsible Care®, Shawna believes that collaboration,communication and cooperation are the key to building successful relationshipswith external stakeholders. In her current role, she manages Dow Canada’scommunity investment programs including major partners such asNAIT; Habitat for Humanity Canada; 4-H Alberta; TELUS World ofScience (Edmonton); Alberta Conservation Association; Let’s Talk Science; andthe Calgary Zoo. Shawna is an outside the box thinker who thrives onraising the bar innovative ideas to reach her audiences. Since arriving at Dowin 2009; she has orchestrated a major business event at the Calgary Zoo;supported Dow’s sponsorship of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics; sponsored a freeCanada Day concert to mark Dow’s 50th Anniversary in FortSaskatchewan; hosted a World Café for Dow employees; and developed WelcomePackages for more than 2, 000 contractors during Dow’s major maintenanceturnaround in 2012 with support of the local Chamber of Commerce. “Dow is aglobal company with more than 6,000 products manufactured at 201 sites in 36countries across the globe,” said Bruce.  “My personal goal is to ensurethat Dow Canada retains their social license in each of our operatingcommunities and that we continue to be seen as good industry leaders andneighbours in the eyes of our residents and key influencers.”
