Thank You to Delegates and Speakers for a Ground Breaking Two Days of Learning and Networking!

The Canadian Institute’s Delivering Urban Transit Infrastructure Conference was held at the Hyatt Regency on May 27-28, 2015. The conference attracted over 100 senior public and private sector professionals from across Canada the U.S. and Europe. Highlights included remarks by PPP Canada, Infrastructure Ontario, Partnerships BC, The Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships and the Canadian Urban Transit Association, as well as a closing address from the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure.

The conference was chaired by BLG’s Robert Shouldice and KPMG’s Larry Blain (former CFO of Canada Line Inc. & Advisor to Partnerships BC). Throughout both days, panels of industry leaders covered a wide range of topics including:
  • which P3’s are the most cost-effective way to deliver an urban transit infrastructure project;
  • lessons learned directly from the Project Co’s of the Union Pearson Express, the Canada Line and the Confederation Line;
  • setting up operations and maintenance for long term success;
  • ground conditions and unforeseen risk;
  • financing and funding urban transit P3’s;
  • procurement relating structuring and the impact on innovation;
  • tax increment financing and land value capture methods;
  • insuring against risk;
  • coordinating transit projects in dense and complex urban areas;
  • how to avoid common litigation pitfalls; and,
  • front end structuring and risk allocation.
See what delegates and speakers had to say:

Delegates stated that the conference delivered a “good cross-section of topics relating to design, build, finance and O&M, as well as a good cross-section of Canadian and U.S. representation”. Delegates also found that the preconference workshops “provided great insight into Moody’s methods and P3 Canada’s goals.”
