LAILA BRABANDER is Assistant Vice-President, Canadian ZoneSpecialty Claims Manager, at Chubb Insurance Company of Canada. Laila leads ateam that handles D&O, Fiduciary, Employment, Media and E&O claimsbrought against Canadian and Multi-National insureds. Laila joined Chubb in2004 as a Specialty Claims Attorney and took on the role of Specialty ClaimsManager in 2010. Laila was the first International Chair of Chubb’s WorldwideClaims Diversity Counsel and was responsible for various mentoring and talentmanagement initiatives. Mentoring continues to be a large facet of hervolunteer time. She is currently an Executive member of the Ontario Bar AssociationCanadian Corporate Counsel Association and the Vice Chair of the Women's LawAssociation of Ontario (GCbranch) and is a frequent speaker at insurance and legal seminars/symposiumsand is the co-author of a handbook on D&O Liability. Nominated for herextensive experience in handling complex claims and securities class actions onbehalf of Chubb and her work within the legal community, she was the recipientof the 2013 Lexpert Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Legal Stars under 40. Priorto joining Chubb, Laila was a commercial insurance litigator in Toronto, with aparticular focus on D&O and E&O coverage issues. While in privatepractice, Laila was the co-author of the 1st edition of Ontario InsuranceLaw & Commentary (Butterworths). Laila is a graduate of McGillUniversity and Dalhousie Law School.
