Preparing and Delivering a Memorable Presentation
Here are some basic guidelines to help make your session as informative and enjoyable as possible:
Content Preparation
-
Reflect on your personal corporate experiences with both anecdotal and empirical evidence; include disasters as well as successes! Honesty is very highly rated by delegates.
-
Review the program carefully to identify potential areas of overlap. Contact other speakers to coordinate content to avoid repetition at the conference.
-
If at all possible, attend proceeding sessions.
-
Explain any acronyms or terms used within your presentation; our conferences attract delegates from an international arena and many people may not be familiar with certain terms.
-
Anticipate and allow time for a few questions – you can even prepare a few to provide to the moderator to raise during a Q&A.
-
Practice - become comfortable with the material and your timing.
-
Cover all the bullet points in the brochure, either orally or in your materials.
PowerPoint Tips
Here are some highlights - but click here to download a Power Point presentation with additional useful information:
BIG POINTS – FEW WORDS! - your slides should reflect the most important points and information you are presenting. Engage your audience and let them read the points as you deliver the bigger message.
Manage Expectations - include a summary slide at the beginning of your presentation, so that the audience knows what to expect.
Big Fonts, Bold Colours, Simple Images - reproduces well in grayscale. Also, make sure the back of the room can easily read the slides.
Multimedia - it works well if it is short, good quality and in context. We suggest no more than 5 minutes of video or 30 seconds of straight audio. Please do not include commercials for your company or firm.
Submit your materials at least 3 weeks before the conference
, so that conference documentation can be compiled, and delegates can follow along with your presentation on the day. If this deadline will present you with any difficulty, please contact your Production Coordinator as soon as possible to discuss.
Delivering Your Presentation
-
Adopt a natural presentation style. Where possible interactivity helps to make the conference as informal and friendly as possible.
-
Involve the audience. P
repare quick practical exercises , individually or in a group to give delegates a hands-on experience.
-
Don't read your paper.
-
Speak into the microphone.
These are only a few suggestions; please feel free to structure your materials as you feel will best suit the content.
Thank you for making our events so successful. We greatly appreciate that a huge amount of energy and effort goes into making these conferences a memorable and enjoyable experience for all concerned.
