As the clearinghouse for exchange-traded derivative instruments, CDCC ensures the integrity and stability of the Canadian market by acting as central counterparty guarantor. CDCC interposes itself between the buyers and sellers of all contracts and, if a Clearing Member were to default on a derivative contract, the obligations of that member towards the counterparty Clearing Member would become the responsibility of CDCC. This guarantee, whose purpose is to protect all Clearing Members from the consequences of default.
